When I first joined SheCodes Bootcamp, I had almost no knowledge of coding. I knew just a little bit about HTML and CSS, and JavaScript seemed like a whole new world. But the program’s step by step approach, with its clear instructions and easy to follow lessons, made it possible for me to learn quickly and confidently. The instructor and community support were amazing. Every lesson was designed to build on what I’d already learned, and I never felt overwhelmed. The workshops and challenges really helped me apply what I was learning in a practical way, which made it all click. By the end of the basics bootcamp, I was not only able to build my own websites, but I also felt ready to start my journey as a developer. SheCodes gave me the skills and confidence to go from a beginner to someone who can actually build and deploy projects. Using a different API (SheCodes Weather API) from the one shown in the videos made the learning curve steeper, but I appreciate that because we had to think for ourselves - like we will in the real world. I decided not to follow Matt's coding/file structure on the videos exactly, implementing my own ideas and trying to find solutions by myself. Taking our first steps towards a new goal can be quite intimidating. I know I felt that way before I completed my very own SheCodes course. A comprehensive dossier. A great interface for courses designed to enable all learner styles alike: visual, auditory, read/write, kinaesthetic. A complete set of tools. As a media designer, I'm familiar with design, but backend? That was completely new territory for me! And since I work in an IT company, I also wanted to better understand how web design works. 💻 My new skills and insights: 💡 HTML, CSS, JavaScript and API basics - of course! 💡 Patience and frustration tolerance: After hours of pondering, you realize you were missing a ; 🙈 ... 💡 Self-discipline: An online course offers a lot of flexibility, but that also means you have to keep at it! 💡 Structured & creative thinking - for me, this is the key to implementing ideas and solving problems. I am particularly proud of my final project, the BreezyBlue Weather App. 🌦️ Here I was able to bring all the new knowledge together and develop a web app that retrieves data via API and displays it in the interface I created myself. That was a huge learning step for me, and it was great fun! Would I recommend the course? Definitely! SheCodes creates a great learning environment for women who want to venture into the tech world.
