Learning web development at SheCodes has been an amazing journey for me. Building Dictionary app project, has given me more understanding and experience in concepts with React. I appreciate Matt Delac and SheCodes Team.

I expected more depth to the react components

This is a challenging course and opens your eyes to the world of React coding. Patience is key. I feel I need more practice with React coding to fully understand it, as I required a lot of help from the Slack community to complete this project. However, I am proud to have finished it.

Taking this React course was a transformative experience for me. As part of the curriculum, I built a fully functional dictionary app—what seemed like a simple project at first turned out to be quite complex. From handling asynchronous API calls to managing dynamic states and integrating audio pronunciation features, the challenges pushed me to really dive deep into React’s ecosystem. What I appreciated most was how the course encouraged exploration beyond just the basics. I experimented with custom hooks, conditional rendering, and different approaches to managing global state. By the end of the project, not only had I strengthened my core React skills, but I also gained confidence in debugging and structuring scalable front-end applications. React needs your full attention during these weeks as it is a steep learning curve all the way. It requires a lot of dedication to reading additional material online and being curious in how the different aspects of React work. Once you get familiar with React it is extremely fun and versatile. It shows you a whole new way of working with JavaScript and takes what you have learned previously to a new level.

Great introduction to the React library.

This was a fun workshop add-on to solidify an understanding of React and APIs. The description and instructor are very serious when they mention that this is some advanced stuff-beyond the basics of HTML, CSS, and JS. And it will feel so true! But again, one of those workshops that is totally worth it in the end, just need to stick with it!

This was a fun little add-on to build on existing concepts learn in the previous React workshop. Definitely push yourself and use the suggested SheCodes API, as it will help you put into practice what you've already learnt, without having a video to follow.

Really good course, way better explained than the first React course.

Creating this dictionary app was a great learning journey for me. I used two SheCodes APIs, one for fetching word definitions and another for retrieving related images to build a rich and interactive experience. When a user searches for a word, the app displays its definition, part of speech, example usage, synonyms, and relevant images that visually represent the word. Working with multiple APIs taught me how to manage asynchronous data, handle errors gracefully, and keep the UI responsive. This project helped me grow my skills in React and API integration, and it was incredibly satisfying to see everything come together into a functional, polished product.

So far, so good. I enjoyed the 3 weeks it took me to complete these workshops. I enjoyed the pacing of the course as well as the challenges that were in each section as that helped with not just watching the tutorials for understanding but to also know how and why it reacts the way it does when added to my own code. I felt encouraged throughout the 3 weeks with the Slack community and asking questions. I felt I did not need much help and could do everything by myself.

I loved learning React.

Once you start you just don't want to stop! :-) EPIC experience to the introduction of coding! Thank you Matt!! I really enjoyed the React Add-On workshop. I learnt to build a fully functional dictionary, showing meanings, examples, synonyms and images related to the word. The project involved using APIs and react loops, also splitting application into different components to ensure they are clear, and easy to understand/manoeuvre. It's really amazing to have made it this far in my coding journey, starting from understanding html basics to vanilla javascript, python and react- I thank Matt for his great and detailed tutorship as well as the SheCodes support team for their prompt support/guidance whenever needed.

Taking the SheCodes React course was both a challenging and rewarding experience. Compared to the previous SheCodes workshops, this one definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone. It took me longer to complete because I really needed to take the time to wrap my head around the new concepts I was learning. This module can be tricky at times, almost pull-your-hair-out worthy! But, once you get the hang of it, you'll see that all the effort is totally worth the challenge of React. Just hang in there and keep pushing through! Again, worth it~.

Building the dictionary project on the React add-on course was super fun!

The React Dictionary Add-on Project was the perfect way to deepen my understanding of React. I learned how to integrate multiple APIs to fetch phonetics, synonyms, and related images — all within a clean and responsive interface. It really helped me practice working with more advanced React concepts like props, state management, and component structure. Nice to build a dictionary with react!

React was really really challenging!! Despite having a solid foundation in vanilla JavaScript, react had me going through sleepless nights trying to code, fix codes, figure out what I am to do, or what I am doing wrong. Nonetheless, it has been the most rewarding workshop because I learnt a whole lot of new techniques - I was able to create components to structure and streamline codes in order to build powerful apps. I learnt how to build interactions using functions, closure and state-management. At the end of the workshop, I was able to build a sophisticated weather app using react, and then hosting my application online. Once more, I would like to thank Matt and the SheCodes team for the great workshop and timely support rendered throughout the process.

Definitely challenging! The final project helped reinforce everything I learned—especially around Bootstrap, utility classes, and media queries. Building a multi-page, fully responsive portfolio involved a lot of refining and repetition, which really helped solidify the concepts taught in this workshop. I’m looking forward to continuing with the Responsive add-on next, then moving into React. I’m also excited to keep building out my portfolio with past projects, personal passion pieces, and eventually real-world client work that reflects my growth as a developer.

Within less than two weeks, I successfully completed yet another React course — the SheCodes React Add-on, and what a journey it’s been! This course took my React skills to a whole new level. I built a fully functional dictionary app from scratch, using live data from external APIs and styling it responsively with Tailwind CSS. I learned how to manage state efficiently, handle user inputs, integrate image search with the Pixabay API, and create a smooth, dynamic user experience. Despite the fast pace, I enjoyed every moment, from facing challenges like debugging axios requests, to watching my app come to life, step by step. It was intense but exciting, and it boosted both my confidence and my coding skills. I'm really proud of this milestone and even more excited about the projects I’ll build next with everything I’ve learned.
