Of course, one thing that everyone who visits NYC must do, is to visit the Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty was a gift from France in 1886 & is located on Liberty Island, overlooking New York Harbor. We were lucky on the day we went that it was a beautiful clear-sky, sunny day. Alas at that point they were not doing visits up the tower, but still being on the island and seeing Lady Liberty up close was wonderful enough.
I am a huge fan of tacky, memorabilia filled restaurants, such as Planet Hollywood and Hard Rock Cafe, that we had to visit on our trip (we visited the one on West 42nd Street). As a big horror movie fan, I was really happy that we were seated near Pinhead from Hellraiser and had The Creeper from Jeepers Creepers flying over our heads (my friend who does not like horror movies was not so fond of this... & it was on her birthday!). Of course, I paid for the souvenier glass to take home. I actually remember the food being delicious, and we had such a lovely waitress.I couldn't fault the place.
"Let me take you down, 'cos I'm going to... Strawberry Fields". As a huge Beatles fan (I have their portraits tattooed across my back, and an extra one of Paul on my leg), I HAD to visit the John Lennon memorial, Strawberry Fields in Central Park. It looks towards the Dakota Building where he lived and was assassinated outside. He wasn't my favourite Beatle, and as the years go by we maybe realise he wasn't the most "nice" man in the world, but we cannot deny the impact that he had in the world of music. One of those people who are, dare I say, a musical genius. I often have wondered over the years what he would have accomplished had his life not been ended far too soon. Would The Beatles have even reunited as we have seen in many bands since?
