Bora Bora is on my bucket list because it feels like the definition of paradise - a place where time slows down and beauty is everywhere you look. The crystal-clear turquoise lagoon, soft white sand and iconic overwater bungalows make it one of the most breathtaking destinations in the world. This beautiful paradise has a calm, romantic energy that feels healing and luxurious all at once. Swimming with colourful fish, watching sunsets and waking up to the gentle sounds of the waves feels like a once in a lifetime experience. Finally, for me it's the perfect blend of natural wonder and peaceful escape, which is why it holds such a special place in my travel dreams list.
The history of Bora Bora dates back to the starting point of South East Asia. The ancestors of Polynesians sailed the Pacific Ocean across the centuries aboard massive double-hulled sailing canoes up to 25m, long known as pahi. Each canoe could hold up to 60 people & more importantly, could sail upwind, something the boats of Cook & Bouganville could not do almost 2,000 years later! Bora Bora Island was first inhabited by Polynesians who crossed the Pacific Ocean in vessels from Tonga & Samoa around the 3rd century AD. Perhaps the world’s greatest navigators of all time!
