About the Song

"Heart of a Child" is the 12th track on Mereba's album The Breeze Grew a Fire. It's my favorite song on the album, and from the first listen, it stirred up a deep emotional response in me. To better understand the feelings the song brought up, I decided to watch the official music video and explore the artist's intended meaning behind it. The song beautifully captures the longing we often feel as adults to return to the simplicity of childhood, to reclaim that innocence and carefree mindset. It also touches on the opposite feeling we experience as children—yearning to grow up. As an adult, I find myself relating to this mindset, especially when life feels overwhelming and full of uncertainty, with doubts creeping in as I navigate through the complexities of daily life. As I get older, I often seek ways to reconnect with my inner child, hoping to experience a more liberated and authentic version of myself. This song is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever encountered, and it often brings me to reflect on the innocence of my childhood. It serves as a poignant reminder to reconnect with my roots.
